In a lot of cases the managers of teams are the backbone of the team, but in areas like training they don’t have much to do. Their professional duties would be to do the following: |
1/ Keep all paperwork on the team: Names – Addresses – Contact phone numbers – Game times and places – Medical information on players – and so on. |
2/ Keeping the coaches informed about club information: Meetings – Changes in Rules – Changes in game times and areas due to wet weather. |
3/ Parent/s information on the team: Making sure that all parents know where games are and times of those games. Maybe putting out a small newsletter each month with info about the team and scores. |
4/ Team Dress and Look: The managers jobs will include making sure that all the Jerseys –Strips or Uniforms are available prior to games and are collected after games. It would be a good idea to get parents to wash the jerseys on a rotation basis during the season. |
Pre-Game: The manager also advises players where to assemble or which dressing room should be used at that time. (If you’re lucky enough to get a dressing room ) Managers will also make sure that all players have the correct equipment like shin pads and boots prior to games and at training. |
(This area is an insurance issue for the club and protects the players)
5/ Game Times: Prior to game times managers are to list all players who turn up for games and advise the coaches when players are missing so that the coach will know who to use at that game. Most countries have game sheets that are given the refs, at either ˝ time or at full time. These sheets are supplied by the club and are used by all teams. The Game Sheets cover who is on the pitch and their numbers just in case there are any yellow or red cards handed out. Managers MUST make sure that this information is correct at all times as a team can lose points if incorrect information is on these sheets. During a game a Manager can be very helpful. All of my managers have taken notes for me during games so that coaches can relay any information at half time talks. Have a meeting with coaches and discuss what type of information they require during a game or match. An interesting one is noting how many times your team passes the ball to the other team during a game. In one match my manager counted 75 times before half time. Also stats like the % of time spent in your attacking half and defending half. This information is very valuable to the coaches. The Manager is the backbone of the team. It’s a rewarding job and a benefit to any coach or coaching staff. Remember the more information the coaches receive the better the team will perform. |
